Questions about The Fish Tank?
Let's start with
the stuff kids might wanna know...
Question: What is The Fish Tank?
Answer: A
community youth room located behind Bryan & Becky's residence.
Question: When is The Fish Tank open?
Answer: It is open from
Labor Day to Memorial Day on Tuesdays and Thursdays every week from
4:00-5:30 for the After-School Program. It is closed the week of
Thanksgiving and during Christmas break and on other occasional dates, which
will usually be posted on this site as well as announced prior to the
closing.
Question: What is the After-School Program all
about?
Answer: On
those days, kids usually come to The Fish Tank straight from school.
It is a place that is open for all kids of the community in grades K-12 to
come and socialize, work on and get some help with homework (if needed), use the internet, play games, and have some snacks. Most
importantly, the After-School Program gives kids a safe place to hang out
until their parents get home from work.
Question: Is The Fish Tank open during the
summer?
Answer: No. It is closed between Memorial
Day and Labor Day.
Question: Is The Fish Tank used for any other
events?
Answer: Yes, occasionally. It is used for
special youth events or meetings, such as video game parties, youth
overnighters, pizza parties, etc.
Now,
on to the stuff parents might wanna know and discuss with their kids...
Question: Who are the adults in charge
of The Fish Tank (that
chaperone the youth)?
Answer: Primarily Becky and/or Bryan Sanders
(and occasionally other youth sponsors).
Question: Is The Fish Tank owned and/or funded
by a community organization or local church?
Answer: Only in that it is
owned and operated by the
ministers of Sandborn First Christian Church. The facility is privately owned, and it is privately managed
and funded apart from the governing board of any local organization/church.
Question: Is The Fish Tank
a non-profit organization?
Answer: Yes, though not officially registered
as such. The owners/operators do not make any profit whatsoever.
There is no cost to attend The Fish Tank. All proceeds from concession
sales go right back into buying more snacks and supplies.
Question: What are
the rules and consequences?
Answer: The rules are simple, and they boil
down to one main rule: Listen to and respect the adults who are in charge!
There are other prohibitions, such as: profanity, violence, purposely
tormenting others (especially those doing homework), bad websites, climbing
on the furniture, and other common sense NO NOs. Kids get two strikes
and on the third, they are asked to leave and not return to the After-School
Program for the rest of that week. The parent(s) of habitual
troublemakers will be notified if need be. The only other rule is
actually more of a request for common courtesy. If your child has been
sick with the flu/cold (or if he/she is sent home or stays home from school
with an illness), out of respect to other kids/parents, we politely ask that
he/she refrain from coming to The Fish Tank for a couple of days. We
ask that you use the same consideration concerning cases of head lice. |
